If you’re over all the Brittos and Curlies of Goa then there’s no need to pull a "mussel", we’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of 5 restaurants in Goa that are making waves this summer. They promise a delicious meal and a taste of some amazing local sea-crets and specialties.
1. Sheela, Bar and
Restaurant:
Sheela just starting picking up a
little fame in the last few months but it’s been around for a long time.
Vasco’s favorite eatery doesn’t believe in giving their customers menus.
Instead, they’ll tell you what fresh seafood they have in the kitchen and you
can tell them how you’d like it prepared. Goan style, of course!
Foodie Favorites: Prawn Curry with Rice, Pork Sausage Pulao, Masala Fried Chonak
Address:
NH 17A, Vidhyanagar Colony, Vasco da Gama, Goa
Approx. Rs. 700/- for two people
2. Black Sheep
Bistro:
Located in the heart of Panjim, Black
Sheep Bistro is a little more upmarket in its interiors and food. Its “globally
inspired, locally created” menu gives you a lot to choose from, both from their
well-stocked bar to their food. So if you want a bit of a twist in your Chorizo
Pao, this is the place to visit.
Foodie Favorites: Chorizo Crusted Fish Fillet, Pork Poutine
Address:
Swami Vivekanand Road, Next To ICICI Bank, Panjim,
Goa
Approx. Rs.1500/- for two people
3. Zico, Bar and
Restaurant:
I have to admit, I am absolutely
stoked to share this one with you. If you want a shack like ambiance,
scrumptious food and cheap alcohol to help you come out of your shell, you’re
at the right restaurant. This family run hidden gem has some lip-smacking
treats in store for you and the best part? They’re super considerate on your
wallet.
Foodie Favorites: Rava Fried Prawns, Butter Garlic Calamari, Pork Vindaloo
Address:Gaura Vaddo, Near Osborne Hotel, Calangute, Bardez, Goa
Approx. Rs. 800/- for two people
4. D’Silva Canteen:
Ladies and gentlemen, it is my
pleasure to introduce you to one of Goa’s most delectable street foods. The
Cutlet Pao. It consists of a generous slice of crumb-fried beef wedged into the
local pao. The cutlet is topped with some shredded cabbage, carrot and some
steak juice drizzled over it. This, my foodie friend, is pure Goan heaven. My
favorite cutlet pao connoisseurs at the D’silva Canteen, Miramar have been
getting this right from the early nineties.
Foodie Favorites: Beef Cutlet Pao, Beef Chilly Fry
Address:
Miramar Beach, After Café Coffee Day, Miramar, Goa
Approx. Rs. 300/- for two people
5. Hotel
Anantashram:
Now this hotel in Vasco is pretty
well known among locals and some adventurous tourists too. Yet it makes my list
because I feel like it celebrates a more Konkan style of cooking other than
just Macapau Goan food. Order their Thali if you’d like to try a variety of
dishes, like clams, kismur and fish curry, among others.
Foodie favorites: Prawn Thali, Fish Thali
Address:
Father Jose Vaz Road, Opposite UCO Bank, Near
Municipal Garden, Vasco da Gama, Goa
Approx. Rs. 800/- for two people
So there you have it, a few of my
favorite places to eat in Goa. Do you know of other not-so-famous cafes and
shacks that deliver on great food too? Connect with us on social media to share
